Mattella Shows Plenty Of Promise On Debut

The team at Habton Grange has had to be patient with Mattella, who made her debut at the age of four on Thursday. However, it became apparent very quickly why the team had kept her in training for so long. Our daughter of Mattmu was narrowly denied a winning debut by the more experienced Master Dandy trained by James Fanshawe.

Mattella was on her toes in the parade ring, taking in all of the sights and sounds of the racecourse. We were fortunate to have the expert hands of Duran Fentiman to guide her to the post and keep a lid on her. Given her draw, Mattella was one of the first horses in the stalls and had to wait for a while as the others loaded. Thankfully, our filly stood in the

stalls perfectly fine despite all of the commotion around her. She was quickly away from the gates when they opened and had a few of the field in trouble from a long way out. She was headed inside the final furlong and battled back to reduce the margin of defeat to just a nose. The first two pulled six lengths clear of the third leaving a great impression.

Mattella's debut was a testament to the patience and dedication of the Habton Grange team. She is a talented filly with a bright future ahead of her and we can’t wait to see her next race!
